RUDA
The pleasure, if not the obsession, of working with contrast, of going where she hasn't gone before or, more precisely, of not doing what she knows how to do - with the temptation, too, of not doing what we expect her to do. Many opposites, many contradictions... Not for contradiction's sake, but with a taste for writing based on contradictions. A taste for extremes too, for playing with pure opposites. A dissatisfaction, too, that drives her on.
Nature and culture have always been, deep down, a driving question. A questioning that probably stems from her own “nature”, from her own family history: a mixed-race Indigenous grandmother, a “hidden”, “mutinous” Indigenous origin, with which she seeks to connect, precisely because this origin was kept silent. A silence that aroused her curiosity, her attachment, her desire to get closer to it. That's where Ayelen, her middle name of Mapuche origin, comes from.

Ayelen Parolin
Choreographer and dancer Ayelen Parolin lives and works in Brussels. Born in Argentina, she came to Europe in 2000 and trained in Montpellier. She then embarked on a career as a performer, collaborating with Mathilde Monnier, Jean-Francois Peyret, Mossoux-Bonté, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Mauro Paccagnella and Louise Vanneste.
In 2003, she began writing choreography. From her autobiographical solo 25.06.76 to the group piece WEG (2019), she has created some twenty pieces. An unclassifiable and unpredictable choreographer, she navigates between several universes and aesthetics, constantly looking to explore different parts of herself and probing what links us to others. Since 2022, her company RUDA has been in residence at the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles.
