Cas Public

Founded in 1989 by choreographer Hélène Blackburn, Cas Public focuses on choreographic research based on innovative approaches to contemporary dance. In 2001, with the aim of introducing audiences to dance and contributing to its development, the company ventured—with great success—into the realm of performances for young audiences, thereby defining itself as a contemporary dance company that appeals to audiences of all ages.

Its repertoire includes some thirty works created for adult and young audiences, performed on four continents. Cas Public’s works are presented on the most prestigious stages, from the Paris National Opera to the Royal Opera House in London, attesting to the uniqueness and influence of Hélène Blackburn’s artistic vision.

Hélène Blackburn

At the helm of the company for over 30 years, Hélène Blackburn is an iconic figure in contemporary dance in Quebec. She has developed a rigorous, physical, and socially engaged choreographic style, shaped by numerous international commissions—notably in France, Italy, Norway, and Germany—and by a deep commitment to young audiences. Her work explores the conventions of ballet, inclusion, sensory perception, and the connections between the body and knowledge. Recognized for her decisive influence on the development of dance for young audiences, she has received the Grand Prix from the Conseil des arts de Montréal (2017), a Prix de la danse de Montréal (2018), and a Prix Hommage from RIDEAU (2019). Her latest creation, MIKRO / BARTÓK (2025), reaffirms her undiminished curiosity and high standards.

CAI GLOVER

An associate artist and co-choreographer with Cas Public since 2024, Cai Glover is a longtime collaborator with the company. An atypical artist in a hearing-dominated world, he has developed—through his own company, A FICHU TURNING—a personal style that eloquently and poetically explores language, identity, and inclusion, particularly as they relate to Deaf culture. Since 9.2 and the creation of MIKRO, he has been working alongside Hélène Blackburn as a co-choreographer, enriching the company’s artistic approach with a profoundly unique perspective.
