Cas Public
Founded in 1989 by choreographer Hélène Blackburn, Cas Public focuses on research in choreographic creation based on the renewal of approaches in contemporary dance. In 2000, with the aim of introducing the public to dance and contributing to its development, the company ventured with great success into the field of young audience performances. Cas Public therefore defines itself as a contemporary dance company aimed at all audiences. Recognized for its spirited and high-performance dance, Cas Public's reputation has been built thanks to the exceptional quality of its creations and a regular presence on national and international stages.

Hélène Blackburn
At the helm of the company since its founding, Hélène Blackburn is an emblematic figure of contemporary dance in Quebec. She has forged a rigorous, physical, and committed choreographic signature, driven by a constant desire to engage with audiences—particularly young audiences. Her body of work, comprising some thirty creations, combines artistic rigor and accessibility, while pushing the boundaries between disciplines.
Her approach is distinguished by her collaboration with excellent performers from varied, sometimes even atypical, backgrounds, as well as numerous international commissions, notably in France, Italy, Norway, and Germany. These experiences nourish a constantly evolving choreographic style that questions the codes of ballet, inclusion, sensory perception, and the links between the body and knowledge.
Cas Public's works, presented on the most prestigious stages – from the Paris Opera to the Royal Opera House in London – have met with great critical and public acclaim. Recognized for her decisive influence in the development of dance for young audiences, Hélène Blackburn has received several distinctions highlighting the scope of her work, including the Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal (2017), a Prix de la danse de Montréal (2018), and a Prix Hommage de RIDEAU (2019).
