Kira Arts
Kira Arts is a Montreal-based performing arts creation and production company led by Aly Keita. It creates multidisciplinary works in which dance, theater, circus, and music coexist on an equal footing. Its works are thus grounded in an intercultural and inclusive approach that fosters a dialogue between traditions and contemporary practices.
The name Kira means “path” in Susu, a language of Guinea, symbolizing the coming together and collective journey of artists from diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on the African diaspora and artists of African descent. Kira Arts’ productions have been presented in Canada, the United States, and Guinea. The company also develops arts outreach and educational projects with the communities it represents.
Aly Keita
Aly Keita, originally from Guinea, is a multidisciplinary performing artist based in Montreal. He studied circus arts, dance, and music at the Keita Fodeba Acrobatic Art Center in Conakry. In 2016, he arrived in Canada as part of a cultural exchange between Inuit and Guinean acrobats, which led to the production of the documentary Circus Without Borders.
He collaborated with Productions Kalabanté, Cirque Eloize, Cavalia, Zab Maboungou, and several Montreal-based cultural organizations before founding Kira Arts. Since 2022, he has also served as an artist-mediator at Place des Arts in Montreal, a role that extends his commitment to the transmission and accessibility of the arts.
His productions—Djata: Conversations du Manden, Altération, and NIMBA—reflect a consistent approach: portraying the encounter between cultures as a source of creation and transformation. NIMBA (2025), his most recent production, has been presented in Canada and Guinea, and will soon be performed in Luxembourg, in a wide variety of contexts, confirming the international reach and adaptability of his work.
