Compagnie Marie Chouinard

Marie Chouinard, born in Quebec City, spent four months living alone in Percé at the age of 16—an experience that would transform her life. A choreographer, she traveled the world as a solo dancer for 12 years before founding the COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD in 1990. Her radical, profound, and uniquely signature works stand the test of time and are part of the repertoires of major international ballet companies. As a filmmaker (films, apps, virtual reality works), writer (Zéro Douze, Chantiers des extases), and visual artist (photographs, drawings, installations, performances), she also creates site-specific choreographic works, pieces for screens, real-time web performances, and more. Named an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France and a recipient of a Bessie Award in New York, she has received some thirty of the most prestigious awards and honors. She founded the Montreal Dance Awards in 2011 and served as director of dance at the Venice Biennale from 2017 to 2020. Marie Chouinard is preparing a solo exhibition.
