La Parenthèse

Founded in 2000 by Christophe Garcia, La Parenthèse is a French contemporary dance company based in Angers and active in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. For the past twenty-five years, it has been building a repertoire of works performed in France, Europe, and North America, with a particularly strong presence in the fields of dance for young audiences and dance-theater.

The company is distinguished by its long-term artistic collaborations with writers, directors, and performers, which enable it to develop hybrid forms that blend dance, theater, and music. It receives support from the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Pays de la Loire, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Department of Maine-et-Loire, and the cities of Angers and Marseille. In 2025, it will celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Christophe Garcia

Trained as a dancer and introduced to theater and music from childhood, Christophe Garcia enrolled at the École Rudra Béjart in Lausanne, then joined the Béjart Ballet Lausanne in 1998, where he worked directly with Maurice Béjart. At the same time, he developed a career as a performer with Robert Wilson, Robert Lepage, and Cas Public, before founding La Parenthèse in 2000.

A recipient of several international choreography awards, he is regularly invited to create works for companies and institutions, including the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, and national opera houses and orchestras in France and Belgium. As an associate of the Pôle National Supérieur de Danse de Cannes-Mougins since 2016, he also carries out educational initiatives with young artists in training.

His collaboration with Érika Tremblay-Roy and Le Petit Théâtre de Sherbrooke (Quebec) has resulted in three productions co-produced by France and Canada: Lettre pour Eléna, Le problème avec le rose (over 300 performances worldwide), and Va falloir toujours toujours (2025), currently on tour in Quebec, Canada, and France.
