Destins Croisés

Of French-Moroccan descent, Ismaël Mouaraki discovered urban dance at the age of 12 in Nancy. He gradually expanded his practice by exploring other forms of movement, and later through his collaboration with choreographer Xavier Lot, with whom he worked as a performer for several years.

Since 2003, he has been creating works with Destins Croisés, of which he is the founder and artistic director. His choreography reflects a central obsession: embodying the infinite facets of humanity, structured around the concepts of polarities, control, domination, and resistance. His works are characterized by a productive tension between urban culture—its codes, gestures, and popular references—and the formal demands of contemporary dance.

Winner of the 2023 CALQ Award for Best Choreographic Work for Le sacre de Lila, he is today one of the most assertive voices of the new generation of Quebec choreographers. His latest creation, V!TAL (2026), is currently touring Quebec. Ismaël Mouaraki is also a teacher and mentor, a central aspect of his practice.
