RUBBERBAND
Founded in Montreal in 2002 by Victor Quijada, RUBBERBAND is a dance company recognized worldwide for a style that blends breakdancing, classical ballet, and contemporary dance into a choreographic language that is at once precise, daring, and deeply rooted in urban culture.
Over the past twenty years, the company has developed a remarkable repertoire, performed on major stages across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The RUBBERBAND Method, developed by Quijada to formalize and pass on this language, is now taught worldwide, notably during intensive winter and summer workshops in Montreal, which attract dancers from all over. RUBBERBAND is one of Quebec’s most recognized and internationally performed companies.

Victor Quijada
Trained in the b-boying scene of Los Angeles, Victor Quijada developed a practice rooted in hip-hop culture at a very young age. He moved to New York, where he worked with Rudy Perez, Twyla Tharp, and Ballets Tech, before joining Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in 2000—a trajectory that illustrates the hybrid vision that would define his career.
He founded RUBBERBAND in 2002. From its very first productions, the company established itself as a unique voice: a language where the precision of ballet meets the raw energy of hip-hop, in works that appeal equally to street dance enthusiasts and regulars of major stages.
His work has earned him numerous honors: the National Dance Award (United States, 2003), the Cultural Diversity Award at the Montreal Dance Awards (2017), and two awards from the Princess Grace Foundation-USA (2010, 2016). In 2024, he was named a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, one of the most prestigious honors in the arts in the United States. In 2025, he received the Charles III Coronation Medal and was named a Companion of the Order of Arts and Letters of Quebec. His next production, XXVII, is scheduled for fall 2027.
