The Soul of the Poet
Margie Gillis
The songs and poems of Gilles Vigneault set the tone for nine performers in a series of scenes where poetry is both seen and heard. Margie Gillis choreographs an encounter between two artists whose work spans generations, and whose long-standing friendship informs every movement.

In a refined staging, the two artists—longtime friends—blend together to convey a vivid message of humanity and nature. Margie Gillis choreographs Vigneault’s lyrics with the same profound sensitivity that has characterized her movement for fifty years: an economy of means that leaves ample room for emotion, a presence in the world that transforms every movement into a testimony.
The songs selected—among the most iconic in Gilles Vigneault’s repertoire—are familiar to several generations in Quebec and throughout the French-speaking world. Here, they are brought to life by nine performers who embody nature, winter, tenderness, and the passage of time. The dance does not merely serve the song: it responds to it, extends it, and gives it a physical form.
